Australia’s national carrier Qantas, and its low fares airline, Jetstar, today announced new direct services between Seoul and Sydney.

Taking off on 2 November 2022, Jetstar Airways will operate three services per week on Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, becoming the only low-cost carrier to fly directly between the two cities.

Joining the low fares carrier from 10 December 2022, Qantas will begin four weekly direct services from Sydney to Seoul on the Airbus A330 aircraft, marking the first Qantas scheduled service to Seoul since January 2008.

Qantas is Australia's leading premium airline with all-inclusive fares including food, drinks and baggage.

Combined, both airlines will carry over 110,000 customers each year between South Korea and Australia.

Jetstar Group CEO Gareth Evans said South Korea had the potential to quickly become one of the most popular Asian destinations for Australian travellers.

"Pre-COVID, the interest in Seoul was really taking off and the launch of these new direct services recognises the rising popularity of South Korea as a must-see destination for Australians with its rich cultural history, vibrant nightlife, and incredible food," Mr Evans said.

"We are also really looking forward to helping more travellers from South Korea experience Sydney's famous Harbour, Opera House and beaches and then use the city as a launch pad to explore other destinations across Australia on our large Qantas Group domestic network.

"With both a full service and low fares option, Jetstar and Qantas offer customers choice in how they want to travel."

South Korean travellers consistently rank Australia as one of the top destinations they want to visit, with South Koreans travelling more frequently than any other nationality in the Asia Pacific pre-COVID.

Flights from Seoul are timed to provide excellent connectivity across the Qantas and Jetstar Australia domestic and Tasman networks.
